The IMTA Membership consists not only of Companies engaged in importing, exporting and International trading in meat, but also of meat wholesalers and distributors. IMTA also has an Associate Membership category catering for those whose interests are linked to the meat trade, such as surveying, shipping, banking and cold storage, as well as the principal meat boards.
The Association has a very active Council of nineteen members which meets once every month, and a number of sub-Committees specialising in different subjects which cover the Association's main spheres of activity. IMTA has regular meetings with Defra and other official bodies on a wide range of subjects and is in close contact with the EEC Commission in Brussels where it is represented on both the Beef and Sheepmeat Advisory Committees. IMTA keeps its Members informed on changes in legislation and on meat trade information.
The Association maintains a list of Registered Meat Surveyors who are able to provide surveys for members and non-members alike. The Association has for most of its existence provided its Members with trading terms. The CIF Conditions of sale have been in existence for many years. More recently Delivered Terms and Ex-Store Terms have been issued. The Terms are linked with an Arbitration Service which is available to anyone who trades on IMTA Terms.
